A native of St. Louis, Mo., and founder of STAR CITY PRODUCTIONS, LLC, loves music, and in particular, JAZZ... He was introduced to music early on, in general by his parents who loved to listen to music on the radio, and in particular by his Uncle Eddie, who was a part of the household and was the jazz purist in the family. Uncle Eddie listened to Miles, Dizzy, Moody, Bud and Richie Powell, Sonny's Rollins and Stitt and the like. Fred fell in love with the so called "West Coast" sound including Ronnie Lang, the Brubeck/Desmond collaboration, Howard Rumsey, Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Stan Getz and so on.
While attending St. Leo's grade school in 1953, representatives from the old Ludwig Music House then located in downtown St. Louis, came to the school seeking students wanting to take music lessons. His parents jumped at the idea and there began Fred's music career. He chose the saxophone. He began the lessons at Ludwig and at the same time, started playing bugle in the American Woodmen Cadets Junior drum and bugle corps. Fred had music coming out of his ears. He continued his music studies throughout high school and on into the U. S. Marine Corps. After his discharge from the service, He lived in Los Angeles for awhile studying the stars like Shelley Mann, The Jazz Crusaders, Eddie Harris, Les McCann, Lou Rawls, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Mann and others before returning to his roots back in St. Louis in late1964.
Fred put his music career on hold for awhile after returning to St. Louis and regained interest again in the late 1970s. In 1980, Fred founded Star City/St. Louis Records and assisted in the production of two (2) 45 releases with the NIGHTWIND band entitled “LATER FOR THAT” and “WHY CAN’T WE” featuring Janet Savage and Luke Holton. Fred eventually formed STAR CITY ENTERPRISE encompassing

_____________________________________________________________Star City/St. Louis Records is the label started in 1980. After the recording days in 1980, the label lay dormant until Fred was approached by musician/producer Michael Nichols while they were working at the financial firm A. G. Edwards in 2005. Michael heard the CD "BLUES IN A RED DRESS" and wanted to work with him on a project which culminated in the CD “TEN PLUS”. Fred learned a great deal about recording and producing from Michael and attributes his continuing success to him. Star City/St. Louis Records is well and growing every day with new individuals and groups signing on.
Saxy Jazz introduces the performance side of Fred Walker. Fred produces background tracks that allow him to exhibit his saxophone stylings and avails himself to entertain at various events. When the weather is favorable, you might find him on a street corner, in front of a restaurant or at a sporting event playing for tips as a "Busker". FRED WALKER is also an excellent DJ.
